Serious Art for Serious Collectors & Investors

Yvon Gallant

Yvon Gallant was born in Moncton, New Brunswick where he has lived for most of his life. He graduated from l'Université de Moncton with a Bachelor in Visual Arts in 1976. He spent  two years in Montréal from 1987-1989. He was director of the gallery Nameless for a period of time.

Storytelling, along with myths and superstitions are often subjects for his paintings. He paints with acrylic. His style encompasses 'blank' faces on his figures, exaggerated hands, and distinct outlines. His works are like visual stories that collectively create an album of contemporary Acadian life. He has created many portraits of the Moncton artistic community.

He has also illustrated films for the National Board of Canada. Through a Canadian Arts Council grant, he created a series of large paintings where characters, real and mythical inspired by Monctonians, became symbols of the spirit and of the identity of a particular social milieu.

Over the course of his career, Yvon has participated in many solo and group shows in Atlantic Canada, as well as internationall in Paris, France and the Dominican Republic.

In 2011, Yvon received the Lt. Governor’s Award for Excellence in Visual Art, the Miller Britten in 1992. He is a member of The Royal Canadian Academy.

He is represented by the gallery Studio 21 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
