William Percy Weston

William Percy Weston was born in 1879. He studied in London, England.

He settled in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1909, taking a position as art teacher at the king Edward High School. He became art master at the Provincial Normal School in 1914 until his retirement in 1946.  He also taught at summer schools in Victoria, British Columbia throughout his career.

Weston’s paintings are held in major collections, such as the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, the Vancouver Art Gallery, Hart House, the University of Toronto, and the University of British Columbia. His work has been exhibited in London and at the World’s Fair in New York.

Weston was the first painter in Western Canada to be elected an Associate of the Royal Canadian Academy. He became an original member of the Canadian Group of Painters, as well.

He was made a life-member of the British Columbia Society of Fine Artists, after he completed a seven-year term as president.

He died in 1967.
