Wll Gorlitz was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1952 and immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of six with his parents. After graduating from the University of Manitoba he went on to earn his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1977.
Following his studies, Gorlitz worked as a graphic artist/illustrator for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
He become a sessional instructor at the University of Waterloo where he was awarded a Distinguished Teacher Award in 2001. He also began a new position as Professor of Studio Art at the University of Guelph that same year, he currently still teaches there.
Gorlitz was elected as a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Art in 2005.
He has been exhibited internationally. His work is in the collections of the Art Gallery of Ontario, Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, McMichael Canadian Art Collection and the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
