Mercèdés Horne was born in 1925 Birmingham England. She immigrated to Canada in 1945.
She established herself as an accomplished modern artist in the 1960′s in Toronto and produced work over many decades. Her work is often referred to as abstract expressionism, however she also produced realsitic works.
Horne has exhibited in a number of shows and has paintings in several public art galleries and museums.
She was a member of The Royal Canadian Academy, Ontario Society of Artists, and and Canadian National Society of Painters in Watercolour. Snhe is also a holder of the Queen Elizabeth Medal received in 1977.
She died in 2011.
