Marc Suzor Coté

Marc-Aurèle de Foy Suzor-Coté was born in Arthabaska, Quebec. He studied at the Collège du Sacré-Coeur, Arthabaska. Followed by studies in music at the Conservatory of Music in Paris in 1890. He studied painting and sculpture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris with Léon Bonnat during the 1890's. Finally, he studied painting and sculpture at the Julian and Colarossi Academies.

He exhibited works in 1894 at the Salon des Artistes Français winning the Grand Prize at the Paris Salon. 

He returned to Quebec in 1908, and established a studio in Montréal. His work  often depicted his interpretations of Canadian landscapes. He also created portraits, nudes, historical paintings and later sculptures.

Suzor-Coté was a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.

In 1927 Suzor-Coté became paralyzed. Shortly after, in 1929,  he moved to Daytona Beach, Florida.

He died in Florida in 1937.
