Kazuo Nakamura

Kazuo Nakamura was born in Vancouver in 1926.  He studied at Central technical School from 1948-1951.

Nakamura was a member of the notable group Painters Eleven.

Nakamura's fascination with science and mathematics influenced his artistic practice, he often incorporated patterns, linear perspectives, along with other techniques to create his unique abstract works. He also incorporated elements that made tribute to his Japanese hertiage in his works.

In 2000 Nakamura was made an honorary fellow at the Ontario College of Art & Design and in 2004 he was the subject of the posthumous retrospective Kazuo Nakamura: A Human Measure at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.

Nakamura passed away in Toronto in 2002.
