Joseph Thomas Rolph was born in 1831.
Along with painting he specialized in engraving and lithography. His paintings often depicted beautiful realist landscape scenes.
He settled in Toronto, Ontario in the mid 19th century. He became a teacher of engraving at the Ontario School of Art during it's early years of foundation in the late 1870's.
He was a member of the Ontario Society of Artists, as well as an academician of The Royal Canadian Academy.
He died in 1916.
