John Kissick studied at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario obtaining his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1985. He then received his Master of Arts through The College of Architecture, Art and Planning, at Cornell University, in New York in 1987. Kissick also attended Harvard Graduate School of Education, completing the Institutes for Higher Education Management Development Program in 2003.
He has been the Director of the School of Fine Art and Music at the University of Guelph since 2003. Prior to his position as director he was the Dean of the Faculty of Arts for three years. He was also the chair of Critical Studies Penn State University School of Arts before moving on to Guelph University.
Kissick is represented by Katzman Contemporary, Galerie Bigue Art Contemporain, Wilde Gallery, and The Michael Gibson Gallery.
He has exhibited in Canada, The United States, and Germany.
Along with creating colourful abstract paintings Kissick is also a writer and has published two books.
He is a member of The Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.
