John Andrew Schweitzer was born in 1952, Simcoe, Ontario. His undergraduate studies were compelted at the University of Western Ontario in London, with painter Paterson Ewen. He then received a Master of Fine Arts from York University, in Toronto, in 1978. He was conferred a Doctor of Law degree in Arts and Humanities from The University of Western Ontario.
For over forty years, Schweitzer has been creating art in many media including sculpture, installation, photography, film, performance art, painting, and collaging. His collage works have gained international recognition.
He is a visiting professor at the School of Architecture at McGill University, he teaches a graduate seminar on contemporary art theory and criticism. He has also acted as curator for a number of exhibits.
He is a member of the Ontario Society of Artists, and The Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.
He currently lives in Montréal, Québec. He has studios located in Montréal, New York and London, England. A philanthropist at heart he makes many donations, and supports a variety of organization in Canada.
