Ivan Eyre

Ivan Kenneth Eyre was born in Tullymet, Saskatchewan in 1935.   He Saskatoon Technical Collegiate he studied under Ernest Lindner, followed by studies at the University of Saskatchewan under Eli Bornstein in 1952. He also studied at The University of Manitoba graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1957.

Eyre was a Professor of Painting and Drawing at The university of Manitoba until 1993. 

Eyre creates paintings, sculptures and drawings. His subjects of his paintings are figurative, still lifes, personal mythologies, landscapes, and portraits.

Eyre was elected a member of the Royal Canadian Academy, he has received the Queen's Gold and Silver Jubilee medals, the Order of Manitoba, an honorary Doctor of Law from the University of Manitoba, and several grants. He has also been the subject of several films and over 5 books.

Eyre has had more than sixty-five solo exhibits and 250 group exhibitions across Canada and internationally. His work has been exhibited at The National Gallery of Canada, the 49th Parallel Gallery in New York City, the Frankfurter Kunstkabinett in Germany, the Canadian Cultural Centre in Paris, the Canada House in London, England. Currently his work can be seen at the Canadian Embassy in Washington D.C. He has nine sculptures on permanent exhibit at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg, Ontario. 

Eyre is represented in numerous public, private and corporate collections throughout Canada.

His paintings and sculptures are represented exclusively by Loch Gallery in Toronto, Winnipeg and Calgary.
