Ingeborg Mohr

Ingeborg Mohr was born in Innsbruck, Austria in 1921. Although diagnosed with polio, and discouraged from pursuing a career in art she studied at the University of Breslau in Germany, took studio classes at the School of Fine Arts in Linz, and attended the Master Class at the School of Fine Arts in Graz, in Austria.

In 1954, Mohr immigrated to Canada with her husband and children. They settled in Saskatchewan briefly before moving to Toronto.

While living in Toronto the booming abstract expressionists of the time had a great influence on her work.

In the late 1960's she began working with batik cloth, her works were exhibited at Goethe-House in Toronto, Trent University in Peterborough, and Merton Gallery in Toronto, among others.

Today Mohr's batiks are part of the collections at Trent University, Massey College of the University of Toronto, and several private collections.

In 1981 Mohr and her husband moved to Howe Island near Kingston, Ontario where she continued to exhibit.

She was a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts

Mohr died in 2004.
