George McLean was born in 1939 in Toronto, Ontario. He studied at the Northern Vocational School, receving some art training. He also attended drawing classes at the Royal Ontario Museum where he met artist Terry Shortt.
McLean began his artistic career as an illustrator, however unstaisfied he soon began painting for galleries. His work realistic in nature portray his wildlife subjects as they appear in nature. His work has been published in several books.
McLean keeps lives in rural Ontario where he has a personal studio. He is a member of The Royal Canadian Academy.
