George Harlow White was born in 1817 in London, England. He studied at The Royal Academy in London in 1836.
During 1839 and 1870 he worked and travelled throguh Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and the Home Counties of England.
In 1871, he immigrated to Canada arriving in Québec. He settled in Shanty Bay, Ontario.
White painted portraits and landscapes, many of his works were of Simcoe County and the Muskokas.
In 1876, he travelled through Ottawa, Québec, the St. Lawrence-Lake Ontario region, and the western provinces.
White was an elected member of the Ontario Society of Artists in 1878 and exhibited his works with the society until 1886. He also exhibited with the Art Association of Montréal and with the Royal Canadian Academy.
He died in 1888.
