Serious Art for Serious Collectors & Investors

Ernest Seton Thompson

Ernest Thompson Seton was born in 1860 in South Shields, Durham, England. He emigrated to Canada with his family in 1866. In 1879 he went tp England and studied at the Royal Academy of Art in London under scholarship. Unfortunately he did not finish his studies.

For some time he worked as an illustrator depicting wild animals. He has created over fifty non-fiction and animal-fiction books that incorporated his drawings and stories based on his experiences as a naturalist.

In 1890 he traveled to Paris to study art at the Académie Julian.

A conservationist at heart, Seton fought to establish reservations for Indians and parks for animals threatened by extinction.

In 1902 he founded the Woodcraft Indians, a youth group that provided nature study opportunities for kids. Inspired by his group, The Boy Scouts of America was established.

He died in 1946.

Many of his works have been preserved in the Seton Memorial Library and Museum at Philmont Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico.
