Duncan de Kergommeaux

Duncan de Kergommeaux was born in 1927 in British Columbia. He studied at The Banff School of Fine Arts in 1951, under Jan Zach in Victoria from 1951-54, the Hans Hoffmann School of Fine Arts in Provincetown, Massachusettes from 1955-57, and the Instituto Allende in Mexico in 1958. He also spent time working in Paris and New York City during the 1980s.

In addition to producing artwork, de Kergommeaux has taught all across Canada at institutions such as Carleton University from 1965-70, The Banff School of Fine Arts during the summers of 1974 and 1975, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1980, the University of Victoria in 1984 and at the University of Western Ontario from1974-1993.

During 1967-68, the National Gallery organized an exhibition of his work that toured across Canada. De Kergommeaux is inspired by the ephemeral quality of nature and the activity of painting – its process, method and structure.  

His career as an artist spans almost six decades. Duncan de Kergerommeaux currently lives and works in London, Ontario.

De Kergommeaux’s work has been exhibited internationally. He is represented by Wallacks Galleries and The National Gellery of Canada. 

He is a member of The Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.
