Douglas H. Haynes was born Regina, Saskatchewan, 1936. Haynes studied at the Provincial Institute of Technology and Art, now the Alberta College of Art, from 1954 to 1958.
He taught at the University of Alberta, Department of Art and Design from 1970 to 1995.
Haynes has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions since 1963 to the present at institutions such as The National Gallery of Canada, and Canada House, in London England, Atlantic Provinces Art Circuit, Glenbow Alberta Institute Calgary, The Edmonton Art Gallery, The Toledo Series, Edmonton, Calgary, among others.
He is represented in many public, corporate and private collections including: National Gallery of Canada Edmonton Art Gallery Art Gallery of Ontario.
He is a member of The Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.
