David Sorensen was born in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1937. he studied architecture with Arthur Erickson and then at the Vancouver School of Art with Jack Shadbolt and sculptor Bill Reid.
In 1962 Sorensen visited Mexico, where he had his first solo exhibition in Mexico City in 1964.
He moved to Montréal where he painted and exhibited frequently. He also taught at the Montréal Museum School of Art and Design, the Saidye Bronfman Centre and Dawson College.
Along with painting he also explored sculpture.
Sorensen, now Professor Emeritus, taught visual art at Bishop’s University from 1981-2000. He is a member of The Royal Candian Academy.
His work has been exhibited across Canada, and in Switzerland, Mexico, France, Italy, Japan, China and the United States.
Sorensen passed away in Montréal in 2011.
