David MacWilliam

David MacWilliam is an artist living in Vancouver, Canada. 

Since 1988, MacWilliam has been teaching painting and visual arts at Emily Carr University of Art and Design, in Vancouver, Canada. He is currently Associate Professor in the Audain School of Visual Arts.

MacWilliam's work has been exhibited extensively in Canada and occasionally in Europe . Some of these exhibitions include the Paris Biennale in 1982, Vancouver Art Gallery's Art and Artists in 1983, and most recently VAG's PAINT exhibition in 2006. He has had numerous solo exhibitions at institutions such as the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, the Vancouver Art Gallery, and the Galleria Panorama, Barcelona, among others. 

MacWilliam's work incorporates abstraction and iconography in order to comment on the social role of art, and the aspects of beauty and aesthetics in life.

MacWilliam completed 'Kingsway Luminaires', a permanent public art installation commissioned by the City of Vancouver's Public Art Program.

MacWilliam's book 'Unfolding' published in 2012 includes reproductions of forty of his inkblot paintings along with essays by Winnipeg psychiatrist Dr. Jeanne Randolph and Canadian artist and art historian Robert Linsley.

He is a member of The Royal Canadian Academy.
