David Thauberger was born in 1948 in Holdfast, Saskatchewan. He studied ceramics at the University of Saskatchewan, in Regina under David Gilhool. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1971 and his Master of Arts in 1972 from California State University. He then studied at the University of Montana in Missoula, earning his Master of Fine Arts in 1973.
His works have been exhibited across Canada in both group and solo exhibitions. Along with painting he has worked as a curator and instructor at institutions in Saskatchewan.
His hyper-real works often depict familiar scenes from Saskatchewan as well as comment on art, culture, and societal views on the world we live in.
He has been honoured with the Saskatchewan Order of Merit. He is also a Member of the Order of Canada in 2008, a recipient of the Queen's Diamond Medal in 2012, the Lieutenant Governor's Saskatchewan Artist Award in 2009 and is member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.
Currently he lives and works in his studio in Regina, Saskatchewan.
