Brent R. Laycock was born in 1947 in Lethbridge, Alberta. He completed a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting at Brigham Young University in1974. In 1972 he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking.
Laycock returned to Alberta, Canada, to establish his career as a visual artist. His early career began as an graphic artist for the Calgary Board of Education and for Freeman/Yipp Advertising Ltd. He also maintained a private fine art studio. His graphic artwork has been included in many art catalogues, logos, and advertising campaigns.
Laycock works mainly in watercolour and acrylic his subject matter explores landscapes from his southern Alberta surroundings and travels abroad. He has also completed murals, and wommissions to paint images for two Canadian postage stamps. His work has been included in many books and publications.
Laycock was a member of The Alberta Society of Artists, The Society of Canadian Artists, the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour, and the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.
He has pursued a busy exhibition schedule with various commercial and public galleries in Canada and the United States. He is represented in many public, corporate and private collections.
In 1991, the Albert Government presented one of his watercolors to Queen Margrethe of Denmark. His watercolors are among the group of Canadian paintings that were presented to Her Majesty's Royal Collection at Windsor Castle in 1986.
